When Mr. An opened his first restaurant, Great Wall China, in 1983, it was a most welcome addition to the Tucson culinary community.  With his ready smile, taste for great Asian food, and love for his community, Mr. An and his restaurant was an instant hit.  In 1991, he opened Sakura, introducing for the first time in Tucson, the unique concept of Teppanyaki which attracted a huge following putting Mr. An front and center as one of Tucson’s most talented, generous citizens.  Today, still going strong, he, his wife, Christina, and son, Bin, oversee the An Restaurant Group which includes Mr. An’s Teppan Steak and Sushi, An Del Sol in Casino del Sol and soon to come Las Vegas locations.  At 70+ Mr. An has no intention of slowing down – in fact there are many plans currently in the works for future expansion.

As both a restaurateur and philanthropist Mr. An has become a Tucson legend, having raised thousands of dollars for many worthy causes in Tucson such as the Community Food Bank, Tu Nidito, the Women’s Council of Tucson, the Tucson Girls Chorus, the Tucson Boy and Girls Club, Tucson Boys Chorus and as a four time heart attack survivor, he leads the charge at the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk.
